12.05.25

130

In this episode it is my pleasure to talk with Dr Craig Sinclair, Senior Research Fellow in the School of Psychology at the University of New South Wales, and Conjoint Senior Research Scientist at Neuroscience Research Australia.

I learn about Advance Care Planning International and we discuss plans for the 9th ACP-i Conference, which will take place from 24th to the 26th September 2025.

It’s a super conversation, and we share many common themes in Advance Care Planning despite the thousands of miles distance between our two countries.

Key messages

  • Craig shares how his passion for Advance Care Planning developed from personal experience

  • We reflect on the similar age trajectories in the UK and Australia

  • Craig shares information about the forthcoming Advance Care Planning International Conference

  • We explore the terminology and meaning of Advance Care Planning, from conversations to plans

  • The What’s in a Pill webinar series is explained by Craig. The series has approximately 15 webinars exploring Advance Care Planning in different countries

  • “Are We There Yet?” is the theme for the ACP-i, using the metaphor of an epic road trip and reflecting the healthcare system in development of Advance Care Planning. The theme also reflects  the impact geographical distance has on the realities of care.

  • I share the Palliative Care Congress theme, “Looking Backwards, Moving Forwards” and we discuss  the value of reflection in Advance Care Planning.

  • Craig shares details of the conference, advising the recordings will be available for ACP-i members. Livestream is being explored too.

  • The ACP-i Conference is September 24-26 September 2025

  • You can access a newsletter and website to keep up to date with the ACP-i conference

  • We explore plans for the UK National  ACP Day Conference held on 7 May 2025 and I describe the panel discussion with great presenters from England, Scotland, Wales and N Ireland.

  • Craig shares the “Life Story” concept and the value this can have in Advance Care Planning
