#112 Lasting Power of Attorney: a younger person’s perspective with Robyn Fuller

In this episode it is my pleasure to talk with the most special guest I have had so far - my daughter Robyn. We talk about Lasting Power of Attorney through the eyes of a younger person, challenge common perceptions and talk about ways that could make LPAs more relevant to young people.

Key messages

  • Robyn shares her thoughts about Advance Care Planning and the impact of growing up with a Mum who works in this environment.

  • Robyn touches on the confusion that exists around the difference between wills and LPAs.

  • We recognise how unusual it is for a younger person to have an LPA

  • To apply for a Lasting Power of Attorney costs £82.00, but there are remissions and exemptions available.

Suggestions to change perceptions about LPAs for younger people

  • Raise awareness about reduced costs when applying for an LPA

  • Emphasise that LPAs are about living not dying

  • Reduce stigma around planning ahead

  • Think about Lasting Power of Attorney like life insurance

  • Remember a Lasting Power of Attorney can be used temporarily in a crisis
